External facades of the Church of Santa Caterina a Chiaia

External facades of the Church of Santa Caterina a Chiaia

The church was built in 1600 and is dedicated to Saint Catherine, Virgin and Martyr; previously, on this site, there was only a chapel called Santa Caterenella.

The current majestic and harmonious shape of the church dates back to 1713, numerous interventions have embellished, enriched and lengthened the building; the temple is of eighteenth-century style, in the shape of a Latin cross, with sunken chapels, while the dome rests on four round arches developed on as many pillars.

The façade is also eighteenth-century in style, but is a prelude to neoclassicism.
